This came with the Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection on the Sony PSP. There is also a game called Interlude that takes place between the original game and the After Years, which takes place about 17 years later.
It is in many ways a carbon copy of FFIV's graphics and play mechanics, the music was borrowed from the original, but it seemed like new compositions and arrangements were included. One particular theme reminded me of music from Secret of Mana on the SNES.
The game is played by choosing a different chapter, or mission, for certain characters, many of them returning from the original game, but there are a few new ones as well. Each chapter felt like a game within itself, so there was plenty to do. Each character had a chance to get some time in. It felt a little bit like FFVI when you split off with different characters throughout the game. The stories weaved in and out of each other, so I did feel like they were all connected. After finishing some chapters, more would unlock, and everything came together at the end.
The game lasted quite a while. I don't know for sure how many hours I put into it, but it felt like it was just as long as other games in the early FF years. It did seem to be a little extra long due to the long dungeon at the end and a host of boss battles from previous (and future) FF games. It made sense in the story, but I think it could have been left out. I'm not complaining, I think I was just trying to finish the game and it felt like it was unnecessary.

My rating: ***
Next up: Final Fantasy V. I have never played it, so I am excited to experience it for the first time!
