Final Fantasy IV was a game I started a long time ago after it was released for the Playstation (along with Chrono Trigger, something I need to play!) I reached a point where I was only going to be able to continue by level grinding. Days passed, and it seemed like too long to go back and know what I was doing. So, I started fresh years later.
First of all, this seemed to follow the same structural pattern as the previous games. The battle system was very similar to what has come before. That made it quite easy to enjoy the rest of the game.
The story was fantastic. A dark knight (Cecil, not Batman) was brought to the breaking point after following the king's evil directives. He chose to flee and started uncovering what was really going on. Of course, the king was being controlled by an evil power. Cecil was changed to a paladin by his father's spirit, and now he leaned a lot more to the light side. Kain was Cecil's friend, who was controlled off and on, so you never quite knew what to expect him to do. By the end, Cecil and Kain worked together to stop the ultimate evil, and this final battle happened on the moon! There were several characters who made the story more interesting. I think this had the best story and character development up to this point in the series.

Even though I started this game fresh, it still happened to take me a little while, and there were some delays and interruptions. It was worth it, though. I really enjoyed this game a lot.
My rating: ****
Next up: I might try to play Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, but if I can't seem to get to it, I'll play Final Fantasy V, which I have never played before!
